Below you'll find some of the most frequently asked questions with answers..

What is a Distance PD?

  • This is the distance (in millimetres) between the centre of your right pupil and the centre of your left pupil when you look into the distance. It is very simple to measure and only takes a few seconds. You only need to ask for this measurement once as it generally does not change once you have reached 16 years of age. We will keep a record of it so as to save time on your future orders.
  • In most cases you can even measure it yourself with a ruler by looking in the mirror or have a trusted friend measure it for you.
  • We advise you to ask your optometrist to put it on your prescription at the conclusion of your eye test. Simply ask "Could I have a copy of my prescription with my distance PD please". Most optometrists are extremely obliging and will do this immediately. An optometrist must by law provide you with a copy of your prescription and details of any tests performed.
  • We can also measure your PD by home visit or you can come directly to our office in Carlingford by appointment only. We can also measure your PD directly off an old pair of your glasses. Simply send them to us and we will post them back immediately.

How can I best maintain healthy eyes?

  • Have your eyes tested regularly and make sure the macula is checked.
  • If you think you need glasses or feel there is a change in your script, don’t procrastinate. You may make things worse.
  • If you experience a sudden loss of vision, pain or double vision then see your optometrist immediately.
  • Make sure you wear protective eyewear when mowing the lawns, pruning bushes and doing any DIY around the house.
  • Don’t smoke. Don’t do drugs. Limit your alcohol consumption.
  • Keep a healthy lifestyle, control your weight and exercise regularly.
  • Make sure your blood pressure, cholesterol levels and blood sugar levels are all within normal limits.
  • Eat a healthy well-balanced diet. Eat fish two to three times a week. Eat dark green leafy vegetables and fresh fruit daily and a handful of nuts a week.
  • Limit your intake of fats and sugars. Avoid fast foods.
  • Wear adequate protection for your eyes from sunlight exposure, especially when young.
  • In consultation with your optometrist or GP consider omega and fish oil supplements.
  • If you wear contact lenses make sure you have regular follow up visits with your optometrist. Strictly follow cleaning and maintenance procedures to avoid eye infections.
  • Don’t swim while wearing contact lenses.
  • Wear your glasses and not your contact lenses when travelling by plane.
  • Be careful when swimming in pools and hot spas at holiday resorts. They are often havens for bacteria which can lead to serious eye infections.
  • Ask for a copy of your prescription with distance PD each time you have an eye test and monitor the changes.
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes.
  • If you spend a lot of time in front of a computer take a break every 20 to 30 minutes and look into the distance for a minute or two.

What are the Advantages of TRY B4 U BUY?

This is the gold standard in online ordering. It allows you to examine in detail our frames, check the quality and try them on at home. We pride ourselves on being the first and currently only online Australian company to offer this service in Australia. The cost is $15 for return express postage.

What is the Easiest Way to Order Glasses?

Just pick up the phone and tell us which frames you’d like to try at home first or buy and we will discuss lens options, prices and payment options with you. We can even get your prescription and PD from your optometrist on your behalf. However, we always recommend you ask for a copy of your script and your distance PD. Remember, we only need to record your PD once as this measurement generally does not change.

Are Your Glasses as Good as the Ones in the Shops?

  • Yes, our frames are made of top quality, Stainless steel, Aluminium, Monel and hand made Acetate. The vast majority of frames have undergone an expensive and intricate manufacturing process. You can see this in the temple designs, from our multicoloured inlays and from the smooth finish on each frame.
  • We do not stock old models, run out models or old fashioned frames.
  • All our lenses are sourced from Australian Labs and each finished pair of glasses passes through a strict quality control procedure.
  • We use the latest high tech multifocals to fit your frames including free-form, low distortion lenses. This combined with a personalised home or office visit by the mobile team to take facial measurements will ensure complete satisfaction.

Why Are Your Prices So Low?

  • We simply don’t have the overheads of a store in a large shopping mall. Rents alone in most cases cost $2000 to $4000 per week. Given that most stores sell 25 pairs of glasses a week you can see why frames must be marked up by over $250 to $350 on cost.
  • We order our frames in bulk at factory prices.
  • We are a 100% owned Australian company and do not have to answer to CEO’s of large foreign owned multinationals who must maximise profits for their shareholders.
  • We believe that all Australians have the right to decent glasses without paying a fortune.
